What is personal care?

Personal care is non-medical, in-home support for seniors who need hands-on help with activities of daily living. It focuses on safety, dignity, and comfort — bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, mobility, and daily routines — so your loved one can stay at home with the right level of support.
Care for Seniors builds each personal care plan around the person, the home, and the family's goals, and adjusts it as needs change.

What personal care includes

Bathing & hygiene

Help with bathing, showering, oral care, and daily hygiene routines.

Dressing & grooming

Support with clothing, hair care, and appearance routines that protect dignity.

Toileting & continence

Respectful help with bathroom routines and incontinence-related care when part of the plan.

Mobility & transfers

Help walking, repositioning, and moving safely in and out of chairs or bed.

Who personal care is for

  • Seniors who need more than companionship or light household help

  • Older adults who find bathing, dressing, grooming, or using the bathroom harder to manage safely

  • Families worried about falls, hygiene changes, or reduced mobility

  • Seniors recovering after a hospital stay or surgery

  • Seniors living with dementia or Alzheimer’s who need routine-based support

  • Family caregivers who need help with personal daily care tasks

Personal care, companion care, or home health — what's the difference?

Three different types of support. Here's how personal care compares, so you can choose what fits your loved one right now.

Personal care

Hands-on help with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, mobility, and transfers. This page.

Companion care

Conversation, errands, meals, reminders, and light daily support — without hands-on physical care.

Home health care

Clinical care from licensed nurses or therapists — a separate medical service we don't provide, included here so you can tell the difference.

How personal care helps families

Protects dignity

Intimate daily tasks are handled with privacy, patience, and respect by a consistent caregiver.

Improves safety

Support with bathing, mobility, and transfers helps make daily routines safer at home.

Gives family relief

Families get reliable hands-on help, regular updates, and a real care team to call when needs change.

How to get started

1. Free phone consult

A short call to understand the situation, the home, and the support that would help most.

2. Free care assessment

We review safety, routines, mobility, and care needs, then build a personal care plan.

3. Match and begin care

We match a caregiver and begin support, adjusting the plan as needs change.

    Personal care questions families ask

    01. What is included in personal care services?
Personal care services include hands-on help with bathing, showering, dressing, grooming, toileting and continence support, mobility, and safe transfers. Care for Seniors builds support around your loved one’s routine, comfort level, home environment, and family goals. The care plan can also include daily routine support and family updates when needed.
    02. Is personal care the same as companion care?
No. Companion care focuses on conversation, errands, meals, reminders, light housekeeping, and selected daily support. Personal care adds more hands-on help with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, mobility, and safe transfers. Many families combine both services when a loved one needs companionship and physical support at home.
    03. Is personal care medical care?
No. Personal care is non-medical, in-home support with activities of daily living. It does not replace skilled medical care from licensed nurses, therapists, or home health providers. If your loved one needs clinical care, we can help you understand where personal care fits alongside other support.
    04. Can personal care help after a hospital stay or surgery?
Yes. Personal care can support recovery at home after a hospital stay or surgery. Caregivers can help with bathing, dressing, mobility, safe transfers, meals, and daily routines while your loved one regains strength. Start time depends on location, care needs, schedule, and caregiver availability.
    05. Can personal care help someone with dementia or Alzheimer’s?
Yes. Personal care can help seniors living with dementia or Alzheimer’s when hygiene, dressing, bathroom routines, or mobility become harder to manage. Caregivers provide familiar, routine-based support and help families keep daily care more consistent at home.
    06. How do you match a caregiver for personal care?
After a free care assessment, we review your loved one’s care needs, schedule, home routine, preferences, personality, and communication preferences. Care for Seniors then matches a caregiver based on the type of hands-on support needed. If the fit is not right, we adjust the match.
