Independent Living Facilities
Independent Living communities are situated in private, fully equipped apartments or condominiums. Facilities accommodate seniors who are independent with few medical problems and those who can maintain their lifestyle without assistance. A variety of apartment sizes ranges from studios to large two-bedrooms. In order to maintain healthy eating and nutritional habits, dining services are most often accessible with custom designed meal packages. The elders in these communities are also offered the opportunity for social outings and events to uphold lifestyle and entertainment.
Assisted Living Facilities
Assisted Living communities are designed for seniors who are no longer able to safely sustain fully independent living, but do not require the high level of care. Administering medications, assisting with day-to-day activities, providing meals and housekeeping services are customarily offered. In a comfortable central dining room, three meals per day are offered to seniors in these facilities. Residents live in their own private apartments with some kitchen space. Well trained staff is available 24 hours a day for additional assurance of those living in these communities.
Most assisted living communities provide licensed nursing services. Social activities and transportation are also available. A special unit for Dementia and Alzheimer's residents is available in some, but not all communities.
Board and Care Facilities
Board and Care Facilities are a great alternative for seniors living at home alone. They are located in residential areas and are arranged as private homes. When living alone becomes difficult, these Board and Care facilities offer a cozy environment for seniors. They offer private and semi-private rooms, and three balanced meals with snacks according to dietary needs.
Medication is supervised and transportation is provided to medical and dental appointments. Health supervision, social activities and house keeping services are provided, as well as assistance with dressing, grooming, bathing, toileting and other activities of daily living. Board and Care facilities offer wonderful group entertainment activities in their homes.
Board and Care facilities are able to provide services that go beyond the scope of the services provided at Assisted Living facilities. With appropriate waivers, these facilities can accommodate residents that may require dementia and hospice care.
Alzheimer's and Dementia Care Facilities
These care facilities provide highly specialized care for people with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of Dementia. They take a personalized, hands-on approach to care giving, in a community that functions as an extended family. These programs strive to preserve residents personal dignity and commitment to sustaining the lies of elders as normal and healthy as possible.
